Skytrex Reflection

Kindness, Honesty, Responsibility and Respect. These are all really important values to have in our lives, they help us shape our lives in the best way possible. It's really good that we start at such a young age, which is sort of a direct quote from my Dad, because I really don't think I'm THAT young. But anyways, core values are good guidelines to live your life by. They bring out the positive traits in us.

During our field-trip to Skytrex, I demonstrated the Middle School Core Value of Respect.  Respect is an important core value, because of the fact, that we need to respect one another so that we can work well together- Collaborating Constructively. See? A connection between a core value and an SLR!

An example of my respect towards others was the fact that if people came before me on the activities, I let them go first and didn't cut the line. This helped the trip go more smoothly, because there was less of a chance of people complaining that someone cut.

Another example of respect was the fact that I encouraged people to keep going when they were stuck on an obstacle course. This also falls under Kindness. This made the trip go on a more positive path, because people didn't feel embarrassed that they were taking so long on the obstacle course. I thought about how I would feel if someone treated me the same way, and just acted on that.

I loved going on the Skytrex Field Trip because I was able to do things, that I never thought I'd be able of doing on my own, and I spent a lot of time getting to know people I didn't know that well, and with friends.

Final Swim Evaluation

To improve my swimming I need to keep my hands in the cup position so that when I push the water, it's more efficient, and I get farther. I feel that I've improved a lot, since the first lesson when I got 3's and now I have 4's & 5's. I think that in a way, I can still work on my strokes so that, I can do the minimum amount of strokes possible, but, for now, I'm doing well.

Thanks!

Volleyball Evaluation

Your Blog Entry for the Volleyball Unit should be three separate paragraphs (A, B, C) and should be clear and concise demonstrating knowledge of the skill. (Claim)

A. You are trying out for the volleyball team. Picture yourself on the court as the ball comes over the net towards you. Describe what the following three phases look like in order to successfully pass the ball either to a teammate or back over the net to the opposing team. Describe what it looks like to be in:

1. Preparation (Ready Position):
The Ready position, is right foot in front of left foot, and arms in an outwards position. If you're in the front, you stay closer to the net, and if you're in the back, you move forward to help your teammates.

2. Execution (Contact with the Ball):
To execute a successful pass, you need to make a cup with your right hand and put your left hand over the cup/fist. If you're closer to the net, you can make an overhand pass.

3. Follow Through & Recovery:
To follow through, you keep your arms in the same position, so that the ball goes where you want it to go. You move back to your position on the court.

B. Describe what the following three phases look like in order to successfully set the ball either to a teammate or back over the net to the opposing team:
Describe what it looks like to be in:
1. Preparation (Ready Position): Bend your knees, move towards the ball, and
2. Execution (Contact with the Ball): Make a slight push upwards and make a pass to your teammate or over the net.
3. Follow Through & Recovery: Be ready.

C. Describe what the following three phases look like in order to successfully serve the ball (overhand or underhand) over the net to the opposing team:
Describe what it looks like to be in:
1. Ready Position: Underhand- Hold the ball in your left hand, (this varies on if you're left handed or right handed). Ideally, you want to hit the ball with your best hand, and throw it with your other hand. But because I'm right handed, I throw it with my left hand. You need to throw it up in a comfortable place for you to hit.
Overhand- Hold the ball with your weak hand and put the ball in a good position on your palm for you to hit.

2. Overhand- Make your best hand into a fist and smack the ball over the net, be careful not to hit it directly into the net. Execution: Underhand-While the ball is in the air, hit or smack the ball with your best hand.

3. Follow Through & Recovery:
For both serves, you need to get back into a pass position, so that if the ball comes back, you're ready.
